The Chastain Homestead is located on the east edge of the quaint southern Colorado town of La Veta. Approximately 800 year-round residents call La Veta home. During the summer and fall, the population expands to include visitors with seasonal homes, hunters and sightseers viewing the unique dike rock walls and change of fall colors. All of the basic services are available and delivered in the manner of a small-town environment. The homestead is comprised of approximately 300 acres of diverse land. Wahatoya Creek flows through the property and provides some irrigation water that is deeded and appurtenant to the property. There are some interesting rock formations and very nice pasture land on the Chastain Homestead. Commanding views of the famous twin Spanish Peaks dominate the southern sky. There are several historic but unusable structures on the ranch along Wahatoya Creek and it doesnt take much to imagine what life was like under the apple trees and starry western skies a couple of generations ago. The apple trees are still there and La Veta happens to have some of the best night skies for stargazing to this day. This property is an original homestead and has not changed hands outside of the family since the 1880’s! Great horseback riding, cattle and horse grazing meadows, amazing views, a live water creek, elk and mule deer hunting, proximity to town and year-round accessibility are hard to find all in one place, but Chastain Homestead has it all. The ranch may be purchased in one large parcel or in smaller parcels.
