HistoryBack in the 1860s Charles Goodnight and Oliver Loving brought thousands of Texas Longhorns from Texas to Horsehead Crossing on the Pecos across the Dagger Draw Ranch on their way to the Apache and Navajo Reservations in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. Later Mr. Goodnight took cattle to Northern New Mexico and into Colorado along the same trail.
For the last almost 30 years the ranch has been owned and operated by the current owners. 3 generations of the family which includes several grandchildren have lived, worked and played on the ranch. They have said it is the greatest blessing that all of their children and grandchildren who have lived on this ranch learned how to work.
All the children are now married with children of their own it has come time to sell the ranch and move North so they can be in the middle of their children and grandchildren. They have loved this ranch, neighbors and the Carlsbad community and are confident that the next owners will feel as welcomed, at home, safe and comfortable as they have.
