Moose Creek Sanctuary

Moose Creek Sanctuary sits in one of the most remarkable areas of Montana. The Big Hole Valley has the kind of scenery that will make you stop alongside the road and pause, the type of recreation that people travel thousands of miles to enjoy, and old-school western nostalgia-driven from its large generational ranches. This valley has a deep agricultural history, known as “The Land of 10,000 Haystacks,” and is famous for the origination of the wooden pole “beaver slide” used for decades to create haystacks. Today, the Big Hole Valley continues to be one of the most prolific agricultural areas in the western United States.

Located within 10 minutes from the ranch, the Big Hole River is one of the premier fly fishing rivers in the United States. Not only does the riparian area offer a fishery, but elk use this part of the ranch as a sanctuary. While some of the elk in this part of the valley often head over the border to Idaho once winter approaches, the hunting can be productive during archery, and on Moose Creek Ranch, a ground blind set in the willows should offer an opportunity at a great bull.

In the winter, take advantage of the ranches’ proximity to some outstanding recreation. Only 20 miles away is the family-friendly Lost Trail Ski Area, and the groomed Gibbonsville Snowmobile Trail starts just beyond the ranch gate. Moose Creek Sanctuary is a recreationist’s dream property.
