Montana Little Valley Ranch

The Montana Little Valley Ranch is a historic mountain ranch in western Montana. Located in the scenic Avon Valley, about 50 miles from Helena, the core of the ranchs 11,100 deeded acres and 9,956 leased acres are comprised of mountain meadows and timbered hills along the west side of the valley. The acreage includes flood irrigated pastures, native grasslands, rolling hills, timbered ridgelines, private lakes, riparian corridors, and healthy, well-managed forests. The ranchs elevation ranges from approximately 4,000-6,800. An outstanding road system makes the higher elevation deeded and leased lands easy to access and enjoy.

The majority of the ranchs 9,956 leased acres reach higher elevations in the Garnet Range along the west side of the ranch. Strickland Creek and Davis Creek emerge in the Garnets, watering the ranchs wildlife and livestock. With a resident elk herd that numbers several hundred during the fall season, Little Valley is a dream ranch for the sportsman. The ranch facilities are functional and updated, including a ranch residence, an original two-story ranch home, and a full set of barns and working facilities. Good stewardship is further demonstrated by the condition of the range and timber resources.

Montana Little Valley Ranch is currently operated as a cow/calf ranch. The owner currently runs about 300 pair (leases pasture to the neighboring ranch for an additional 300-350 pair) and rates the ranch at 500-700 pair with supplemental hay production. There are roughly 400-500 acres of irrigated hay meadows, most of which are currently hayed while the rest are grazed. Summer grazing is abundant on the ranch and much forage remains for the wildlife populations.
