The ranch is supported by an extensive water distribution system consisting of 15 concrete stock tanks supplied by a pipeline network that provides dependable water throughout the property. Numerous reservoirs supplement the system and help ensure consistent water availability.
Cross-fencing and interior ranch roads allow for efficient rotational grazing and straightforward livestock management. The road system provides excellent access throughout the ranch and contributes significantly to operational efficiency.
The ranch is rated to support approximately 130 cow/calf pairs without utilizing the hay meadows for grazing. When the hay meadows are incorporated into the grazing program, the ranch can support approximately 150-155 cow-calf pairs. As is typical throughout the region, winter feed supplementation is required. Historically, the ranch has also supported approximately 450-500 yearlings during the summer grazing season.
Approximately 250 acres of improved hay meadows provide supplemental winter feed production and can also be utilized as winter pasture. Combined with the ranch’s native grass resources and water infrastructure, these meadows contribute significantly to the ranch’s overall productivity and carrying capacity.

Region & Climate

The Hulett area experiences a classic high plains climate with four distinct seasons and wide temperature swings throughout the year. Summers are warm and pleasant, with average highs reaching approximately 85 degrees in July, while winters are cold, with temperatures averaging near 30 degrees during January and February.
The Black Hills landscape receives slightly more moisture than the surrounding prairie country, contributing to the healthy Ponderosa pine forests and productive native grasslands found throughout the region. Annual precipitation averages approximately 23 inches and supports the area’s hay production, livestock operations, and wildlife habitat.
Winter snowfall provides valuable moisture that replenishes reservoirs, seasonal drainages, and groundwater resources heading into the spring growing season. Overall, the climate is well suited for both cattle production and year-round outdoor recreation.
The region is also home to Devils Tower National Monument, whose distinctive silhouette has become one of the most recognizable landmarks in the American West. History

The New Haven Ranch is rooted in one of northeastern Wyoming’s historic ranching communities. Established in the early 1900s, New Haven served as a gathering place for ranch families throughout the region, centered around a general store, post office, schoolhouse, community hall, and cemetery.
The general store supplied area residents with everyday necessities while also serving as the community’s social hub. In 1928, the community building was constructed and became the center of local life, hosting church services, dances, weddings, funerals, holiday celebrations, and countless community events for generations.
While New Haven is no longer an active town, its history remains visible in the community building, cemetery, and surrounding ranchlands, which continue to reflect the area’s rich heritage and ranching traditions. These landmarks stand as reminders of the families and hard work that helped shape this corner of Wyoming.

New Haven Ranch is located approximately 19 miles northwest of Hulett, Wyoming, offering an excellent combination of privacy, accessibility, and convenience. The ranch is approximately 23 miles from Devils Tower National Monument, one of the most iconic landmarks in the American West. Both Gillette, Wyoming, and Spearfish, South Dakota, are within a convenient driving distance of the ranch, located approximately 62 miles and 71 miles away, respectively. Private air access is available through Hulett Municipal Airport, located approximately 22 miles from the ranch.
