Region & Climate

Laramie has a high-elevation, semi-arid climate characterized by low humidity, abundant sunshine, cool summers, and cold winters. Summer days are generally mild to warm with cool evenings, while winter brings regular snowfall, periods of strong wind, and temperatures that can fall well below freezing. Spring and fall are shorter transition seasons, with weather capable of changing quickly. The area’s dry air, wide temperature swings between day and night, and four distinct seasons are typical of southeastern Wyoming’s high plains.

History

Laramie developed in the late 1860s with the arrival of the Union Pacific Railroad and quickly became an important transportation, ranching, and commercial center on the high plains. The region had long been used by Indigenous peoples, including the Arapaho, Cheyenne, and Lakota. Laramie was named for French-Canadian trapper Jacques La Ramie, and the University of Wyoming was established there in 1886. Today, the area retains strong ties to its railroad, ranching, and Western heritage while serving as a center for education, agriculture, and outdoor recreation.

Location

1 Calistoga Road offers the bonus of being a part of the Wild Horse Ranch gated community but with its own private entrance and without long drives down the dirt roads. From town, travel southwest on Wyoming Highway 230, then turn onto Pahlow Lane (County Road 422). Continue west through the open Laramie Plains to Hanson Lane (County Road 424), then follow Hanson Lane to Twin Buttes Vista Dr which leads to Calistoga Road and the property entrance.
