Chimney Rock Ranch

Rock Chimney Ranch is a 495 +/- acre hunting and recreational property situated along the western edge of the Winding Stair Mountains in Latimer County, Oklahoma. Large timber, open pasture, rolling mountain terrain, scenic views, multiple water sources, and existing improvements create a property well suited for a private hunting retreat, family recreational ranch, or livestock operation.

Improvements include a house and shop positioned on a hilltop overlooking the ranch, a trailer house, covered barn, and two manufactured buildings that could be finished to provide additional accommodations. Existing fencing provides a starting point for livestock, with opportunities to expand the fenced acreage as desired. The ranch's eastern boundary fronts Oklahoma Highway 2, providing convenient access at multiple locations.

Terrain & Landscape

The ranch sits where the western end of the Winding Stair Mountains transitions into rolling hills and a broad, bowl-shaped clearing. The house and shop occupy an elevated position with commanding views across the lower pastures toward the Potato Hills and distant Kiamichi Mountains.

Ponds are positioned on both ends of the hilltop, while an established trail system runs east and west before descending south into a large stand of pine and mixed timber. Elevation changes throughout the property create a diverse landscape of hilltops, slopes, timber, openings, creek bottoms, and lower pasture.
The headwaters of Anderson Creek originate within the lower portion of the ranch and travel west as the terrain drops in elevation. Although seasonal, the creek maintains pools during portions of the warmer months and adds another valuable habitat feature to the property.

Water

Water is well distributed throughout Rock Chimney Ranch, with five ponds located across the property in addition to the seasonal headwaters of Anderson Creek. A water well and pump near the hilltop supply the main house, while a second well and pump near the Highway 2 entrance serve the trailer house.

Wildlife

With its combination of timber, water, openings, elevation changes, and developing understory, the ranch provides habitat for a variety of Oklahoma game species. Hunting opportunities include white-tailed deer, eastern and Rio Grande turkey, American black bear, quail, and other native wildlife.

Timber & Habitat

The pine timber was selectively harvested during the winter of 2025–2026 to reduce heavy growth and begin revitalizing the forest understory. Opening the canopy allows additional sunlight to reach the forest floor, encouraging the growth of native browse, forbs, grasses, and young hardwoods.

Combined with newly cut roads and trails, this work has laid the groundwork for continued habitat improvement and gives a future owner the opportunity to further develop the ranch specifically for wildlife, recreation, or land management objectives.
